New stamp on World Post Day from Belarus

 

 

Belarus Post issued a special stamp on  9^th of October to  celebrate  World Post Day.

World Post Day is celebrated each year on 9 October, the anniversary of the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in the Swiss capital, Berne. It was declared World Post Day by the UPU Congress held in Tokyo, Japan, in 1969.

The purpose of World Post Day is to create awareness of the role of the postal sector in people’s and businesses’ everyday lives and its contribution to the social and economic development of countries. The celebration encourages member countries to undertake programme activities aimed at generating a broader awareness of their Post’s role and activities among the public and media on a national scale.

Philately Day Celebration in Bangalore

 

Philately Day is being observed on 13.10.2014 during National Postal Week. The Philately Day celebrations have been organized at Meghdoot Auditorium, Bangalore GPO at 16.00 hrs on 13.10.2014. A special cover on "160 years of Postal Stamps in India " is being released on this occasion. The Second level of talks on zonal level philately exhibition has also been organized.

Hence, it is requested to all philatelists on behalf of India Post and KPS to attend the PHILATELY DAY CELEBRATIONS and make it a grand success.

GRAND SUCCESS KHAJURAHO MEET OF JAINISM PHILATELY GROUP

Jainism Philately Group (JPG), an organization of Philatelists collecting Jainism and allied themes, had organized a Members  Meet & Get-to-gather at world famous temple city Khajuraho (M.P.) on 5th Oct. 2014. Total 91 parsons attended this meet from various States of India.JPG had organized free lodging, boarding, Satna - Khajuraho and local transportation for all the participants.

In the morning, participants visited all the important temples in three groups along with the expert guides. After lunch, meeting was started at 3 PM in the Jain temples complex presided by the National Chairman Mr. Sudhir Jain (Satna, M.P.). Meeting was conducted by Vice Chairman Dr. Pradip Jain (Balod, Chattisgarh). And Mr. Pramod Kumar Jain (Pondicherry) delivered welcome speech.

Mr. Mithalal Jain (Pune), Mr. Lalit Kumar Nahata (Delhi), Mr. Devendra KumarJain (Secundrabad), Mr. J. M. Dhor (Jaipur), Mr. Hemant Bafna (Pune), Mrs. Meena Mutha (Mumbai), Mr. Arvind Jain (Ajmer), Mr. Shantilal Hiran (Nasik), Mr. Hemant Jain (Mandla), Mr. Tej Singh Chaudhry (Jodhpur), Mr. Prakash Chasuksi (Udaipur), Mr. Vijay Singh Jamed (Kishangarh), Mr. Tejkaran Jain (Rajnandgaon),, Mr. Anil Jain (Ajmer), Mr. Ganesh Oswal (Pune), Mr. Nirmal Jain (Satna), Mr. Vijay Modi (Himmatnagar), Mr. Pragya Kothari (Patna) etc. had  given valuable suggestions which includes -

1. Pictorial cancellation seals used at various important places are in very bad condition. Related PMGs should be persuaded for new one.

2. Special cancellations should be affixed on all the outgoing mails on that particular date.

3. Director Philately should be requested not to issue many higher denomination stamps.

4. A multicolor book should be published bearing images of all the philatelic material related to Jainism

5. Philatelic Workshops should be organized in the schools of various cities

6. Try to add one liner slogans in the Postal Receipts of different Post Offices

7. To peruse for release of some stamps on Jain architecture, principles and personalities.

Members celebrated 60th anniversary of Mr. Sudhir Jain, Chairman JPG. Mr. Sudhir Jain announced that he will financial help to 60 poor students every year. Mrs. Meera Jain wife of Late Philatelist Naresh Kumar Jain of Patna, who had prepared first collection on Jainism 30 years ago, was also honoured by JPG.

Meeting concluded by giving Condolence to the JPG member and world renowned Philatelist Mr. Amu Shah of Kenya.

A beautiful kit, bearing many special covers, pictorial cancellations, pre independence postal stationary, packed coins, set of Khajuraho idols, book and picture post cards, philatelic calendar and literature etc. was distributed to all the participants.

It was a memorable event enjoyed by all. Next meet has been finalized at Udaipur after one year.

Bletchley puts a stamp on Turing’s achievement

A new postage stamp has been issued in celebration of the Turing Bombe being named as the top engineering feat. The Bletchley Park code cracking machine beat Concorde into second place. The stamps are being issued on 1 November 2014 from Bletchley Park Post Office. Two specially commissioned pieces of art feature on the limited edition sheets of twenty 1^st class stamps. One by Steve Williams depicts the Turing Bombe in action at wartime Bletchley Park. The other by Daniel J Rogers is a study of Alan Turing, the mathematics genius behind the device. Turing’s work in developing the Bombe to speed up the Enigma code breaking process is also the subject of a new blockbuster film just released.

World Post Day  - 9th October

Thailand Post issued today  a commemorative postage stamp on World Post Day. World Post day happens each year on 9th October, remembering this date for the establishment of Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in Bern, Switzerland. The UPU was the start of global communications revolution, people could write to others all over the world. 9th October was first declared World Post Day at the 1969 UPU Congress in Tokyo, Japan. Since then, World Post Day is celebrated all over the world to highlight the importance of the postal services.

Special Cancellation on World Post Day from Vadodara

India Post is celebrating National Postal Week from 9th to 15th October 2014 and 9th October is celebrated as World Post Day as a part of National Postal Week.

A Special Cancellation has been provided at Vadodara Philatelic Bureau on the occasion of World Post Day on 9th October 2014.

Theme for 2014: Posts claim their place in the changing communication landscape

This year, 2014, is a milestone for the Universal Postal Union, which celebrates its 140th anniversary on 9 October. The communication landscape has changed considerably since 22 founding countries met in Berne, Switzerland, in 1874 to establish the UPU - which now boasts 192 members. Since becoming the first UN specialized agency to get its own top-level sponsored domain and secure space on the Internet, ".post", the UPU is now looking to the future. It is working to extend the universal service into the digital sphere, playing an important role in enabling trusted cross-border communication - a critical issue for the development of e-commerce.

      

The purpose of World Post Day is to create awareness of the role of the postal sector in people’s and businesses’ everyday lives and its contribution to the social and economic development of countries. India Post Celebrates National Postal Week from 9th to 15th October, 2014.

In many countries, philatelic exhibitions are organized and new stamps and date cancellation marks are issued. Other activities include the display of World Post Day posters in post offices and other public places, open days at post offices, mail centers and postal museums, the holding of conferences, seminars and workshops, as well as cultural, sport and other recreational activities. Many postal administrations issue special souvenirs such as T-shirts and badges.
